The download link for The Landscape Material Planner, generated after a completed purchase, is provided on the confirmation page shown right after payment and in the confirmation email sent to the address used at checkout.

The free Depth Cheat Sheet download link is sent by email after signing up on the homepage, and can be requested again at any time using the same email address if the original message is misplaced.

Link expired or missing

If a download link has expired or a confirmation email cannot be found, including in a spam or promotions folder, contact [email protected] with the email address used, and the link will be reissued.

The calculator on the homepage requires no purchase or email signup and remains fully usable without an account.

What the planner contains

The Landscape Material Planner is a single 20 page PDF. Its coverage tables use the same densities as the free calculator, so a figure checked on paper in the driveway matches the figure on screen.

Opening and printing

The file is a standard PDF and opens with no extra software, in a browser on a computer or in the built in Files app on a phone. For site use, print the coverage table and the budget grid on letter size at full scale rather than fit to page, so the columns stay readable in poor light.

Downloading again

The link is tied to the order and does not expire on its own, so the file can be pulled down onto a second device. If the confirmation email cannot be found, write from the address used at checkout via the contact page and it will be reissued.

What you may do with the file

Print it as often as you like and use it on your own jobs, including work you are paid for. What is not allowed is passing the PDF itself on, publishing it or reselling it.

Step by step file check after checkout

Use one device for the first download if possible. A desktop or laptop is the easiest place to save the PDF because the browser usually shows the file name, the download folder, and the print controls on the same screen. Allow 2 to 5 minutes after payment for the confirmation screen and the email to appear, then check that the file opens before leaving the page.

  • Open the confirmation page and select the download link once, not repeatedly. Several fast clicks can create several partial downloads with similar names.
  • Wait until the browser download indicator is finished. A 20 page PDF should normally download in a few seconds on home internet, but a weak mobile signal can take longer.
  • Open the file from the downloads folder, not only from the browser preview. This confirms that a saved copy exists on the device.
  • Save one backup copy in a named folder, for example Landscaping, Mulch, or Current job. A clear folder name prevents confusion during a material order.
  • If using a phone, move the PDF from temporary downloads into the built in file manager before going to the yard or supplier.

For a job folder, use one name format for all files. A practical format is the property name, then the date, then the material, for example Oak Street 2026 04 gravel. This makes it easier to match the planner with photos, measurements, and receipts when several areas are being estimated.

Equipment, page size, and printing checks

The useful minimum setup is a device that can open a PDF, a printer, letter size paper, and a pen or pencil for marking quantities on site. If the sheet will be used outdoors, print at least two copies of the pages you plan to carry. One can stay clean in the truck or house while the other is marked up near the bed, driveway, or path.

ItemPractical figureReason to check it
Letter paper8.5 by 11 inchesKeeps printed tables at a readable size for field notes.
Printer scale100 percentPrevents columns and boxes from shrinking.
Margin settingDefault or normalReduces the chance of clipped table edges.
Spare paper2 to 4 sheets per jobAllows a clean copy after rain, mud, or changed measurements.
Phone storageAt least 10 MB freeLeaves room for the PDF plus a second copy or screen capture.

Before printing several copies, print one test page. Check that the smallest numbers can be read at arm length, about 24 to 30 inches. If they cannot, use a printer quality setting that produces darker text rather than scaling the page up or down. For outdoor notes, a clipboard or rigid folder is more useful than loose paper because wind makes small table entries difficult to mark accurately.

Frequent mistakes and recovery steps

A common mistake is assuming that a browser preview is the same as a saved file. A preview can disappear when the tab is closed, especially on a phone. Open the file list on the device and confirm that the PDF is visible there. If it is not visible, download it again while the link is available.

Another frequent problem is printing from a phone with a hidden scale setting. Some mobile print menus reduce the page automatically to fit the printable area. If the print looks too small, send the PDF to a computer or open the advanced print panel and look for the scale value. Set it to 100 percent when the option is available.

If a download appears damaged, delete the partial file and download a fresh copy rather than trying to repair it. Signs of a partial file include a blank preview, a file that opens to only one or two pages, or an error message from the PDF viewer. Poor cell service is a common cause. Repeat the download on WiFi or in a location with a stable signal.

If a confirmation email is not visible, search the mailbox by the site name, by PDF, and by the checkout email address. Also check whether the purchase was made with a different email account on the same phone. If the issue is about account access or general site use, the FAQ may help before requesting a reissue.

Special cases for shared devices, job sites, and old printers

On a shared computer, avoid leaving the only copy in the public downloads folder. Move it to your own folder or cloud storage before signing out. If the computer belongs to a library, print shop, or employer, also remove temporary copies after printing if local rules allow it. This reduces the chance that another user opens the file by mistake.

For a job site with no reliable signal, download and open the PDF before leaving home or the office. Do not rely on a link in an email while standing at a supplier counter or beside a driveway. A local saved copy and one printed sheet are more reliable than trying to recover a message in poor service.

Older printers may clip the edge of a table if their nonprintable margin is large. If this happens, do not change the material quantities by hand to make the table fit. Print on another printer, print in normal portrait orientation, or use the PDF on screen and take notes on a separate sheet. For wet conditions, keep the printed copy inside a clear sleeve or a resealable plastic bag, and write measurements on the outside with a marker only if you do not need a permanent clean sheet.
